About Clemens Brentano
Clemens Brentano was a 19th Century poet who was one of the key figures of the German Romanticism movement. He gained nationwide attention in 1805 when he collaborated with Achim von Arnim to publish the first edition of the poetry collection titled “Des Knaben Wunderhorn”.
The renowned German poet went on to release many interesting poems with the most popular ones entitled “An Sophie Mereau” and “Aus einem kranken Herzen”.
His Family
His parents were Maximiliane von La Roche and Peter Anton Brentano. He was the brother of renowned writers Christian Brentano and Bettina von Arnim. He was also the uncle of Gisela von Arnim, Lujo Brentano, and Franz Brentano. In 1803, he married writer Sophie Mereau.
Education
He was trained at the University of Halle.
Trivia
During the early stages of his career, he was known by the pen name Maria.
He had a close relationship with other popular writers like Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and Christoph Martin Wieland.
