About Debbie Wasserman Schultz
During her days in the university, Debbie Wasserman Schultz served in many leadership roles in school which gave her the necessary experience to go into politics after graduating. In 1992, she was elected into the Florida House of Representatives. After serving for eight years, Schultz, who’s widely known to be a Democrat, was selected into the Florida Senate.
In 2004, she won an election to represent the people of Florida in the United States House of Representatives. She has gone on to serve in other political positions including the Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee.
Family
She’s the daughter of Larry Wasserman, an accountant, and his wife Ann. Steven Wasserman, her brother, is an attorney known for his time with the United States Attorney.
She became the wife of Steve Schultz in 1991 and the couple has three kids, as at the end of 2021.
Education
In 1984, she completed her education at Half Hollow Hills High School East. She continued at the University of Florida where she obtained her first and master’s degrees.
Awards
Recognized for her role in improving social lives, the New York-born politician has been honored with many awards such as the Crime Fighter of the Year Award, Weizmann Institute of Science’s Woman of Vision, and the Florida Federation of Business & Professional Women’s “Outstanding Legislator of the year”.
Trivia
Ahead of the 2008 U.S. elections, she joined Hillary Clinton’s campaign team as one of its national chairpersons.
That same year, she had seven breast cancer-related surgeries.
