About Dom Mintoff
Dom Mintoff was a Maltese politician, architect and civil engineer. He led and rebranded the Labour Party to the Malta Labour Party after Paul Boffa, the then-leader resigned to lead his newly-formed party, the Malta Workers Party in 1949. He became the 8th Prime Minister of Malta in 1958 and served until 1958. He returned to office as the Prime Minister in 1971 and held the position until his resignation in 1984.
Family Life
He was the eldest son and the third of nine children of Concetta Farrugia and Laurence Mintoff. He was married to Moyra de Vere Bentinck, with whom he had two daughters.
Achievements
He received Malta’s National Order of Merit and the Al-Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights amongst other international honors.
Death
He died at age 96 on August 20, 2012.
