About Don Hutson
In the history of the National Football League, Don Hutson is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, end players. He spent the whole of his 11 years career in the league as a player of the Green Bay Packers, and was easily recognized by his number 14 jersey.
He made his professional debut in 1935 and finished with three NFL championships. He was also admired for his versatility and was sometimes used as a safety during defense.
Following his retirement, Hutson worked as a coach. Until 1948, he was with his former team as a member of their coaching staff. He also explored other business opportunities. He owned a bowling alley in Green Bay. He was also into automobiles and established the Hutson Motor Car Co. in 1951.
His parents were Mabel Clark and Roy B. Hutson. With Julia, his wife, he raised three children named Jane, Julia, and Missy.
He completed Pine Bluff High School before moving to the University of Alabama.
He has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, and the College Football Hall of Fame.
Hutson led the NFL’s receiving yards chart on seven different occasions.
He played baseball and basketball in his early years.
