About Emile Berliner
Emile Berliner goes into the history books as the inventor of the gramophone disc record. He started experimenting with his new invention in 1886, and the following year he received the patent for his work. In 1908, he created the first-ever radial aircraft engine. Aside from that, the German-born American inventor came up with the acoustical tiles in the 1920s. He has also been credited for developing the modern-day microphone.
During his active years, he founded a number of organizations including the Berliner Gram-o-phone Company of Canada, Hanover’s Deutsche Grammophon, and the United States Gramophone Company.
Personal Life
His wife was called Cora Adler. The famous inventor had seven children including aeronautical engineer Henry Berliner.
Education
Berliner attended Cooper Union Institute where he read physics.
Awards
He was celebrated with the Elliott Cresson Medal in 1913. Berliner also received the John Scott Medal, and the Franklin Medal.
Trivia
He went into a legal battle with Thomas Edison to ascertain the owner of the patent of the phonograph.
Some of his published literary works were titled “Conclusions” and “Some Neglected Essentials in the Fight against Consumption”.
