About Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison was a prolific American inventor regarded as one of the greatest inventors in history. His first great invention was the phonograph, which was capable of recording sound and playing it back. His other famous inventions include the light bulb and the motion picture camera. During his lifetime, he held approximately 1,093 US patents for his inventions. In addition to his inventions, he was also a successful businessman who founded several companies, the most prominent being General Electric.
Personal Life
He was married twice. His first marriage was to Mary Stilwell in 1871. Mary bore him three children before her death in 1884. His second marriage was to Mina Miller in 1886. Mina also bore him three children, including Charles Edison and Theodore Miller Edison.
Trivia
He suffered from partial deafness.
During his teenage years, he saved a three-year-old boy from being killed by a train. The boy's father thanked him by training him as a telegraph operator.
