About Fernand Léger
Fernand Léger was a French artist celebrated for being the originator of the art style known as "tubism". Though he started showing glimpses of his talent at an early age, Léger decided to pursue a career in the art industry at the age of 25 years. His first exhibition was in 1910 at the famous Salon d'Automne center.
Moving forward, this renowned artist produced many eye-catching works including “Mother and Child (Le Jardin de ma mère)” which was launched in 1922. Some of his other popular works were titled “Study for Three Portraits (Étude pour trois portraits)” and “Table and Fruit (Le compotier)”.
Family
In 1950, he lost his wife Jeanne-Augustine Lohy. Two years later, he tied the knot with fellow artist Nadia Khodossevitch.
Education
After graduating from the School of Decorative Arts, he enrolled at the Académie Julian.
Trivia
As a politician, he was known for his time with the Communist Party.
He also worked as a teacher and taught in some top institutions like Yale University, and Paris’ Académie Vassilieff.
His students included Florence Henri, Nadir Afonso, and Victor Reinganum.
