Originally named Ramaswami Ganesan, but widely known by his stage name Gemini Ganesan, was a renowned Indian actor. He was one of the famous 20th-century Tamil cinema actors. The actor was noted for his incredible performances as the romantic lead on set and was even nicknamed “Kaadhal Mannan,” which translates as “King of Romance.”

Ganesan was born in Pudukkottai, Princely State of Pudukkottai. The actor graduated from Madras Christian College, Chennai. However, he also enrolled at Ramakrishna Mission Home, where he was taught Sanskrit and Yoga. In addition, he held a BSc degree in Chemistry.
Career Highlights & Major Honors
In 1947, he worked as an assistant producer at Gemini Studios, where he obtained his alias “Gemini.”
1953 was one of the best years of the actor’s career. His role as a villain in “Thai ullam (1953)” earned him initial wide recognitions, and his performance as a hero in “Manampol Mangalam” shot him to fame as the film was a great hit. His 1974 production, “Naan avanillai,” was also one of his notable performances.
Ganesan acted for five decades which include at least 200 films with a majority in Tamil. In 1971, Ganesan was honored with the “Padma Shri,” – India’s most prestigious civilian honor.
