About Gene De Paul
Gene De Paul was a renowned composer and trained classical pianist who composed film scores for many Hollywood classics, including “Moonlight in Hawaii” and “Behind the Eight Ball.”
Career
After serving in the US Army during World War II, the New York City native returned to the States to pursue a career in music. He composed the film score “Pig Foot Pete” for the 1942 movie “Hellzapoppin”, which was nominated for an Academy Award.
In addition to composing film scores, he worked with other notable musicians, including Carolyn Leigh, Johnny Mercer, and Charles Rinker. In 1953, he composed the son “Teach Me Tonight”, which became a hit.
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985.
Family
Paul married Billye Louise Files and they remained married until her death in 1977. The composer passed away in 1988.
