About Gustave Doré
Gustave Doré became a prodigy artist by the time he turned five years old. The French artist was also an illustrator, printmaker, sculptor, caricaturist and comic artist. His main medium of art was wood-engraving. He worked on illustrations for the likes of Miguel de Cervantes, Lord Byron, Dante Alighieri, John Milton and Balzac.
Personal Life
He stayed without marriage his whole adult life. After his father passed away, he lived in Paris with his mother.
Achievements
He was posthumously honored with a Legion d’honneur by the French government in 1861.
Death
He died after a short illness on January 23, 1883.
