About Harold Wilson
James Harold Wilson was a British politician from the Labour Party who became the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister twice; he first served between 1964 and 1970 then later from 1974 to 1976. He resigned from his office in 1976 at a time when there was economic instability in a lot of Western countries.
Family Life
Wilson’s father, James Herbert Wilson, was a works chemist while his mother, Ethel Seddon, was a schoolteacher.
He married the English poet, Mary Baldwin, in 1940. They gave birth to two sons named Robin and Giles.
Achievements
Between 1964 and 1976, Wilson was conferred with honorary PhD degrees by Lancaster University, the University of Liverpool, University of Sussex, University of Nottingham, and the University of Essex, all in the UK, and the Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
Death
He died in May 1995 aged 79 from colon cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
