About John Ashcroft
John Ashcroft introduced himself to the political scene in 1972 when he competed for the Republican's Congressional seat in Missouri. He later served in the State Auditor office before he was made Missouri’s assistant attorney general. He was promoted to the state attorney general position in 1976.
In 1984, he was elected as the governor of the state and served for two terms, leaving office in 1993. Two years after leaving his post, Ashcroft was selected to represent Missouri in the United States Senate. After six years in office, President George W. Bush appointed him as the U.S. Attorney General.

He was born to James Robert Ashcroft and Grace P. Larsen. He has been married to Janet Ashcroft since 1967 and together they have raised three kids including American attorney John Robert Ashcroft.
Education
After Hillcrest High School, Ashcroft enrolled at Yale University. In 1967, he graduated from the University of Chicago Law School.
