Early Life & Career
Bucyk was born in Edmonton, Canada to Ukrainian immigrant parents. He grew up poor and when he was 10 years old, he lost his father.
Professional Career
He got his start in hockey playing in junior tournaments with his team, the Edmonton Oil Kings. In 1955, he joined the Detroit Red Wings before joining the Boston Bruins two years later, where he would spend most of his ice hockey career.
Achievements
Bucyk was a two-time Stanley Cup champion (1970 and 1972). He also won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy both in 1971 and 1974. In 1981, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and in 2017, was featured in the “100 Greatest NHL Players” list.Johnny Bucyk Rank
