About Josef Kramer
German Nazi war criminal Josef Kramer was known to be a very vile man during his command over the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps.
Early Life
He was also known as the "Beast of Belsen" and he was born to Theodore and Maria Kramer and lived in a strict Roman Catholic home. Kramer became an electrical apprentice in 1920 and was gainfully employed from 1925 to 1933.
Career
Josef found interest in the Nazi Party and joined them in 1931. He went on to be a member of the Schutzstaffel in 1932. His contributions to the party earned him the opportunity to be a guard at Dachau in 1934 and then on to be a senior officer at the Sachsenhausen and Mauthausen concentration camps. He was given the command of Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp in 1941 and then promoted to Hauptsturmführer (Captain) in 1942. Kramer was directly responsible for the death of numerous non-Nazis during his tenure of office.
Personal Life
The Nazi official married Rosina Kramer from 1937 to 1945. He was sentenced to death by hanging in 1945 after he was convicted by the British Army.
