About Jules Feiffer
The American Illustrator and author is popularly known for works such as “Little Murders” and “The Phantom”. Some of those works of his have been featured in national publications such as the Los Angeles Times, The Yorker, Esquire and the London Observer.
Spouses
He has been married a number of times. He married Judith Sheftel in 1961 and they were divorced in 1983. He later wed JZ Holden in 2016.
Career
During the mid-1940s, Feiffer worked with Will Eisner as an assistant cartoonist and they illustrated comic works such as “The Spirit”. He also worked as a cartoonist at the American newspaper The Village Voice.
He published one of his early satirical cartoons “Sick, Sick, Sick” in 1958 and later released his first book “Harry, the Rat With Women” in 1963.
The author started work on theatre film in 1961, producing plays such as “Knock Knock” (1976) and ‘Feiffer’s People” (1969). He was also the scriptwriter for the comic films “Carnal Knowledge” in 1971 and “Popeye” in 1980.
Honors
Feiffer was the recipient of the 1986 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning.
He also received the National Cartoonist Society Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
In honor of his works, he was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame.
