About Kim Ki-duk
After making his directorial debut in 1996, Kim Ki-duk established himself as one of the prominent filmmakers in South Korea. He gained international recognition with his work on the 2000 film “Real Fiction” where he served as the writer and director.
He was best known for his 2004 films “Samaritan Girl” and “3-Iron” which were nominated for different awards.
Legal battles
In 2017, Kim was charged for allegedly assaulting an actress whose name was kept away from the public. After a number of court hearings, he was fined $4,450. The following year, a number of unnamed actresses also accused him of sexual harassment in a television program titled "PD Notebook".
Family
He was survived by a child called Da-eun Kim.
Achievements
In 2004, he won the Silver Bear, and Silver Lion awards at the Berlin International Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival respectively.
Death
He was diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2020 and later that year he joined his ancestors.
