About Leslie West
Considered as one of the forefathers of the heavy metal sub-genre of rock music, Leslie West started out in music as a member of the band called the Vagrants in the mid-1960s. He later became known for being a founding member, vocalist and guitarist of Mountain, a hard rock band. With the band, he achieved fame through the singles “Mississippi Queen” and “Theme For An Imaginary Western”.
Other Works
In the early 1970s, he performed for a few years as a member of the rock trio, West, Bruce & Laing alongside Corky Laing and Jack Bruce.
Family Life
He was born in Leslie Weinstein to parents who were Jewish. He wed Jenni Maurer in August 2009.
Death
He battled with morphine, heroin and cocaine addiction in the 1970s. He also had diabetes, which resulted in the amputation of his right leg in 2011. He was reported dead on December 22, 2020, following a heart attack two days earlier.
