This Canadian hockey player, who was the first hockey player to ever grace the cover of Time magazine, won the Stanley Cup title twice.
Early Life
Chabot was born in 1900 in Montreal, Canada and he developed a passion for hockey as a youngster.
Career Highlights
Chabot made his NHL debut in 1926 with the New York Rangers, where he was a part of their Stanley Cup championship team of 1928. As a Jew, the Ranger’s publicity team sought to use him to gain Jewish fans but Chabot was not pleased with that and left the team. He eventually moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs and once again earned his second Stanley Cup Championship in 1932. This 6-foot 1-inch player played with other teams such as the Montreal Canadiens, the Chicago Black Hawks, and the New York Americans.
He eventually retired in 1937 but was plagued with severe arthritis in his later years so he had to be bedridden.
Death
Chabot died at the age of 46 in 1946.
