In order to make money for his family, Louis Burt Mayer bought a vaudeville theater located in Massachusetts to start his film business.
Career
He went on to expand and renovate other theatres in Boston to accommodate people from the higher social class.
In 1918, the Canadian-American filmmaker established his production company known as Louis B. Mayer Pictures. His organization later merged with other companies in 1924 to form what would be known as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He was put in charge of the company’s studio operations.
He was one of the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, organizers of the Academy Awards.
Family
His birth name was Lazar Meir and was the son of Sarah Meltzer and Jacob Meir. He grew up together with his two sisters named Ida and Yetta. He divorced Margaret Shenberg before marrying actress Lorena Layson in 1948. He had two children which included American socialite Irene Mayer Selznick.
Achievements
He has been inducted into Massachusetts’ Citizens Hall of Fame. The star has been placed on Canada's Walk of Fame to celebrate his achievements.

As a politician, he was known to be a member of the Republican Party and chaired their California branch at a point in time.
