About Marjane Satrapi
Marjane Satrapi has garnered widespread international recognition as a graphic novelist, film director, illustrator, cartoonist and children’s book author. The Iranian-born French personality initially rose to fame through her autobiographical graphic novel series, “Persepolis”, which was first published in the early 2000s in the French language.
She is also known for the novel’s film adaptation of the same name, which she wrote and directed and for her direction and scriptwriting of the biopic film, “Radioactive”.
Family Life
She was raised in Tehran, Iran until her adolescent years when she was sent to study in Vienna, Austria. She permanently moved to France in her 20s. She has been married twice: the first was to Iran-Iraq War veteran Reza at age 21. She later married Mattias Ripa, with whom she has been residing in France.
Achievements
She has been a recipient of accolades such as the Angouleme Coup de Coeur Award, Gat Perich Award and the Noor Iranian Film Festival Award.
Trivia
Her graphic novel, “Chicken with Plums” was also adapted into a film.
