About Neil Kinnock
Welsh politician Neil Kinnock’s first political position at the national level was as a Member of Parliament for Islwyn (initially for the now-abolished Bedwellty constituency) in 1970. He also served as the Shadow Secretary of State for Education and Science.
He is known for his time in office (1983-1992) as the Leader of the Labour Party. He went on to serve as the European Commissioner for Transport (1995-1999), European Commissioner for Administrative Reform (1999-2004) and Vice-President of the European Commission (199-2004). He has been a Lord Temporal of the House of Lords since 2005.
Family Life
He was the only child of district nurse Mary Kinnock and coal miner Gordon Herbert Kinnock. He has been the husband of politician Glenys Kinnock since 1967. He is the father of Labour Party MP Stephen Kinnock and a daughter named Rachel Kinnock.
