About Rajendra Prasad
Rajendra Prasad showed glimpses of a politician during his time in the university. As a student, he helped in the creation of the group known as Bihari Students Conference. However, he began working as a teacher after obtaining his Master’s certificate.
Political career
It is believed that Prasad began his political career in 1911 when he formally joined the Indian National Congress. It was within this period that he met Mahatma Gandhi, who he described as a role model. As a disciple of Gandhi, he was imprisoned in 1931 and 1942 before being named the Minister for Food and Agriculture after the 1946 elections.
The following year, he served on the Constituent Assembly of India as its president, and was instrumental in the preparation of the country’s constitution. He became the country’s first President in 1950 and served in that position till 1962.
