During his more than two decades of stock car racing, Ralph Earnhardt became the winner of 350 NASCAR races in different series. He was the father of NASCAR's 7-time champion, Dale Earnhardt.

Born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, he got into car racing as a way of warding off the boredom that characterized his early youth.
Career Highlights
The year 1953 witnessed him venture into full-time racing. In 1955, he came second in the NASCAR Sportsman Championship. The following year, he became the NASCAR champion. He was also named the point champion at 11 different tracks from Pennsylvania to Florida. In his debut Grand National Series, he won the pole and grabbed the 2nd position. In 1972, he raced with his son Dale, a fellow stock car racer, in a contest involving cars from Semi Mod and Sportsman Division.
Accolades
In 1997, he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. The following year, he was listed among NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers.
Personal Life
He died of a heart attack in 1973. He was survived by his wife Martha and 5 children.
