About Robin Cook
Robin Cook is a British politician who became known for his long service to the Parliament of the United Kingdom. He first entered parliament as the Member of Parliament for Edinburgh Central in 1974 and served until 1983. From 1983 until 2005 (the year of his death), he was the Member of Parliament for Livingston. Other positions he occupied include Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1997-2001) and Leader of the House of Commons (2001-2003).
Parents and spouses
His parents were Christina Lynch and Peter Cook, a Chemistry teacher. He was first married to Margaret Katherine Whitmore from 1969 to 1998. Four weeks after their divorce, he married Gaynor Regan, a member of his staff with whom he had been having an affair. His first marriage produced two sons.
Death
He died on August 6, 2005 from hypertensive heart failure while on vacation in the Scottish Highlands with his second wife.
