About Stephen Wiltshire
Stephen Wiltshire is a renowned English architectural artist. He is famously known for his eidetic memory and unique ability to recall and draw landscapes and pictures from memory after seeing it only once.
Early life
He had nonverbal autism when he was three years old. However, he was enrolled at Queensmill School when he was five and learned to talk fully at age nine.
When he was eight, he sketched the “Salisbury Cathedral” for ex-prime minister Edward Heath. Between 1995 and 1998, he was enrolled at the “City and Guilds of London Art School.”
Major Career Works
In May 2005, he produced one of his longest ever scenic memory drawings. It was a detailed drawing of the city of Tokyo on a 10.0m long canvas, which he completed seven days after riding over the city in a helicopter.
In 2010, he drew a panorama of the city of Sydney as a way to raise funds to promote awareness of Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia).
Singapore’s Press Holding presented a memory drawing of Singapore’s skyline President Tony Tan during the country's 50th birthday.
As of 2020, his 2011 76m long scenic drawing of New York City was displayed on a billboard at the John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Honors
In 2006, he became a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
