About Susan Hayward
Susan Hayward worked as a model for a short while before going to Hollywood in 1937 hoping to land the role of Scarlett O’Hara by auditioning for “Gone with the Wind”. She did not get cast but ended up signing a contract with Warner Bros which gave her several small roles in a few films in 1937 and 1938. She later became known best for her biopic film roles. They include Barbara Graham in “I Want to Live!”, Angelica Evans Conway in “Smash-Up, the Story of a Woman” and Lillian Roth in “I’ll Cry Tomorrow”.
Family Life
Her birth name was Edythe Marrenner. She and her two elder siblings were raised by their parents, Walter and Ellen Marrenner in Brooklyn, New York City. She had two children and was married twice: first to actor Jess Barker, and then to Floyd Eaton Chalkley.
Achievements
She won an Academy Award for her role in “I Want to Live!”.
Death
She died from brain cancer on March 14, 1975.
