Tariq Ali is a British novelist, historian and activist. He is the author of a lot of books, such as “Pakistan: Military Rule or People’s Power (1970),” “ Jihads and Modernity (2002),” “Bush in Babylon (2003),” “Conversations with Edward Said (2005),” “The Obama Syndrome (2010),” and “ The Extreme Centre: A Warning (2015)”.
Personal Life
His parents were Mazhar Ali Khan a journalist and Tahira Mazhar Ali Khan an activist. He is the maternal grandson of former Prime Minister Sir Sikandar Hyat Khan. It was also known that his father and mother were cousins. He later got together with Susan Watkins who was the editor of New Left Review and had two children with her. He already had a daughter from a relationship he previously had.
Education
He attended Exeter College, Oxford and read Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
Career
He started participating in debates that spoke against the Vietnam War and got recognized for his testimony over the role the US played in Vietnam at the Russell Tribunal. In 1968, he became a part of the International Marxist Group. He is known to be one of the authors of “Trotsky”, he also wrote the book “Clash of Fundamentalisms” and “The Leopard and The Fox” which spoke about Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto. In 1990, he released the satire “Redemption”.
Trivia
He has also stated that he does not belong to any religion and is an atheist.
