Personal Life
The name given to him when he was born is Terrence Mitchell Riley. He has been very interested in music since childhood. He studied at San Francisco University where he focused on composition. He later attended the San Francisco Conservatory then also attended the University of California. He lost Ann Riley, his wife in 2015 after she had three children with him.
Career
He started working as a pianist in the early 1950’s and by the 1960’s, he had started performing at piano bars all over Europe. He also went to India to study more and teach, he later went to New York to perform. He has worked on several music over time including “Music for the Gift” which was released in 1963, “Descending Moonshine Dervishes” in 1975 and “Terry Riley: Cadenza on the Night Plain, a collaboration with the Kronos Quartet” in 1984. He also worked on different films including “Music with Roots in the Aether: Opera for Television”, “Musical Outsiders: An America Legacy” and “A Rainbow in Curved Air”.
