About Theodore William Schultz
Theodore William Schultz was a popular American economist whose post-WWII research helped in the understanding of the Human capital concept. In his research, he tried to identify the reason why Japan and Germany were able to rebuild their economy within a short period after the war. He later came up with the notion that good health and education were key in building a fast economy. He also contributed to concepts like ‘international development’.
Other Works
Schultz was also an educationist. Until 1943, he was a lecturer at Iowa State College. Three years after leaving the school, the University of Chicago appointed him as the chair of its economic department. In 1960, he was selected as the American Economic Association’s president.
His Personal Life
His father was simply referred to as Henry. He had three children with his wife Esther Florence Werth.
Education
The famous economist studied at South Dakota State University, and also at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Awards
He was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1979.
Trivia
Schultz also published many books with some titled “The Economic Organization of Agriculture” and “Origins of Increasing Returns”.
