About Vo Nguyen Giap
Giap was a soldier and a politician from Vietnam. In 1930, he co-founded the Indochinese Communist Party. He has held several positions including minister for interior, defense minister, assistant prime minister, and military commander.

He studied at Quốc Học and the University of Indochinese.
Personal Life
He was the son of Thị Kiên and Nghiêm. He had three siblings. In 1939, he married Nguyen Giang. Giap fathered a child named Hong Anh.
He was once a history teacher. Giap fought numerous battles which include World War II, First Indochina War, and Vietnam War. In 1981, he retired as a defense minister. In 1991, he also retired as a deputy Prime Minister.
Death
Giap died in 2013, at the age of 102.
Awards
He received the Fatherland Defense Order. He also received the Feat Order and the Gold Star Order from the government of Vietnam. Additionally, Giap was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order twice.
