About Walter Mirisch
Walter Mirisch was one of the founders of the renowned production company known as the Mirisch Company. The American filmmaker was first hired by Monogram Pictures, and produced his maiden film in 1947 which was entitled “Fall Guy”.
He later joined Allied Artists Studio where he would work as the head of production. He worked on many successful movies such as 1961’s “West Side Story” and “The Apartment” which starred Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine.
Family
He was one of the children of Max Mirisch and Josephine Frances Urbach. His brothers Harold Mirisch and Marvin Mirisch were the other founders of the Mirisch Company. His three children with Patricia Kahan were Anne Mirisch Sonnenberg, Lawrence Mirisch, and Andrew Mirisch.
Education
Before enrolling at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, he studied at DeWitt Clinton High School. The renowned film producer also attended Harvard's School of Business Administration.
Achievements
He won the Academy Award’s “Best Picture” prize in 1967. That same year, the Producers' Guild of America honored him with their “Producer of the Year Award”. He also received France’s Order of Arts and Letters.
Trivia
The American served in the military before joining Monogram Pictures.
He also served as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ president.
In 2021, he became the oldest Oscar winner alive.
