About Fred Duesenberg
Frederick Samuel Duesenberg’s contributions to the automobile industry cannot be dismissed. The German-American automobile designer, manufacturer and car racer is known to be the originator of the four-wheel hydraulic brakes and the eight-cylinder engine (duly named after him as the Duesenberg Straight-8 engine).
He also earned patents for his cooling system and automatic transmission. He and his younger brother, August, were co-founders of the now-defunct Duesenberg Automobile and Motor Company, manufacturers of passenger cars.
Family Life
He was the son of Luise and Konrad Duesenberg. Besides August, he also had two elder brothers and three sisters. He had a son named Denny with his wife, Isle Denney.
Achievements
He is a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
Death
On 26 July 1932, he died from complications resulting from a car accident he had been involved in 24 days earlier.
