Fredrich Schleiermacher was a German philosopher, biblical scholar, and theologian.
Early Life
Friedrich Schleiermacher was born to Gottlieb Schleiermacher and Katharina-Maria Schleiermacher. He began his education by enrolling in the Moravian School. He later went through teachings in German Idealism and Berlin Romanticism. He later got to attend the University of Halle, where he focused on theology.
Career
Schleiermacher started to develop skepticism about Christianity and out rightly rejected the religion. He then became a private tutor and, after two years, became a chaplain at the Charite Hospital in 1796. He later found God again and served as a pastor from 1802 to 1804.
In 1804, he became a professor of theology at the University of Halle. Schleiermacher was well known for his efforts to merge the criticisms of the unbelievers with traditional Protestant Christianity.
Personal Life & Death
Schleiermacher married Henriette von Willich in 1809. The couple lost their only son in 1829. He died in 1834 due to pneumonia.
