About Geoffrey Howe
British politician Geoffrey Howe began pursuing politics in the early 1950s, not long after he received a call to the bar. He would later become internationally famous for his time in Margaret Thatcher’s cabinet, during which he served in positions like Chancellor of the Exchequer, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, and Leader of the House of Commons.
He was also the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from July 24, 1989, until his resignation on November 1, 1990.
Family Life
His parents’ names were Eliza Florence and Benjamin Edward Howe. He married Elspeth Rosamund Shand in 1953. They had three children together. He became the son-in-law of journalist and entrepreneur P. Morton.
Death
He died from a suspected heart attack on October 9, 2015.
