About George Gamow
Many well-known figures in physics have shaped hypotheses and challenged findings in the pursuit of a deeper comprehension of the cosmos and the world. Theoretical physicist and Russian-born American cosmologist George Gamow is one person who merits consideration.
Background
After graduating from Leningrad University in 1928, Gamow proceeded to Göttingen, where he created his quantum theory of radioactivity.
He conducted research on stellar nucleosynthesis, the effects of radioactive decay on atom nuclei, and star formation. In addition to discovering a theoretical explanation for alpha decay through quantum tunneling, he was one of the Big Bang Theory's original proponents and expanded upon it. His contributions to molecular biology were top-notch.
He lectured more frequently and published a number of popular science books, starting in 1939 with "Mr. Tompkins in Wonderland." Some of his novels are still in print today despite being written decades ago.
Trivia
He was an atheist.
He was married twice – first to Rho, from 1931 to 1956; second to Barbara Perkins in 1958.
