About Mary Ingalls
Mary Ingalls was the elder sister of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the noted American writer who became famous for her children’s book series, “Little House on the Prairie”. She lost her sight at 14 years due to what was then believed to be scarlet fever (later proven in 2013 to be viral meningoencephalitis). She subsequently studied at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School between 1881 and 1889.
Family Life
She was the eldest child of Charles and Caroline Ingalls. Her other siblings were Caroline Celestia Ingalls Swansey, Charles Frederick Ingalls and Grace Pearl Ingalls. Her niece, Rose Wilder Lane also became a celebrated writer.
Death
She died on 20 October 1928 from pneumonia, shortly after suffering a stroke.
