About Tomoyuki Yamashita
Tomoyuki Yamashita became a member of the Imperial Japanese Army in 1905 after he successfully completed his training. He participated in the First World War as a lieutenant. Due to his dedication and braveness, he was promoted to the position of a Captain in 1916.
During the Second World War, he served as a general of the army. He gained international attention after he led the Japanese army to conquer Singapore and Malaya.

His wife was called Hisaki Nagayama.

He had his military training at the Imperial Japanese Army Academy. He also attended the Army War College.
Trial and Execution
Yamashita was arrested and charged with war crimes after WWII. He was accused of commanding his troops to commit a number of crimes, though he denied all charges. He was later found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. His failure to stop his charge from committing the crime laid the foundation for the legal doctrine which was known as the ‘Yamashita standard’.
