Early Life
Raised in a middle-class Minnesota, he relocated to New York, where he enrolled in the Chase Art School.
Career Facts
Sterrett made his Polly strip debut in 1912. It originally focused on a pretty girl, but was later extended to cover Polly's parents. Renowned as a leading artistic innovator, he has been cited as a key player by many comic artists. Following his signing with William Randolph Hearst's National News Syndicate in 1912, his work garnered countrywide attention. Notable among Sterrett's series of related strips include “Ella Cinders”, “Blondie” and “Boots and Her Buddies”.
