About Randy Castillo
Best known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne in the mid-80s and early 90s, the American drummer also appeared on tribute albums for great bands and artists, including Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Guns N’ Roses.
Early Life
Born in 1950 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, his passion for playing the drums was born after seeing a TV performance of English band The Beatles. He moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of landing a gig with a band.
Career
He started off as a drummer for the rock group, the Motels. By a stroke of luck, he got introduced to Ozzy Osbourne through an earlier friendship with Mötley Crüe's drummer, Tommy Lee. In 1986, he joined Ozzy and played with him over the next decade. They worked together on such hit albums as, “The Ultimate Sin”, “No Rest for the Wicked” and “Live and Loud.” 1n 1999, he landed a stint with Mötley Crüe' and played with them until his diagnosis with cancer.
In 2002, aged 51, he succumbed to the disease.
Trivia
In the weeks leading to his death, he was working with bassist Mike Inez on forming a new band.
