About Baby Face Nelson
Baby Face Nelson was the nickname of infamous American bank robber Lester Joseph Gillis. He was just twelve years old when he got arrested for using a pistol he found to shoot another child he was playing with.
By his late teens, he had become a local gang leader. He committed his first bank robbery when he was 21 years old.
He first got on the radar of the FBI in March 1934 after he joined notorious criminal John Dillinger to rob two banks, days after helping the latter escape from prison.
Nelson also had a reputation for killing several FBI agents.
Family Life
He had two children with Helen Wawrzyniak, whom he married in 1928.
Death
Nelson died on 27 November 1934, after an intense gun battle with the FBI, which has come to be known as ‘The Battle of Barrington’. The shootout also claimed the lives of two agents: Herman Hollis and Samuel Cowley.
